Byng Pass. Aug [August] 28/43 [1943]
A beautiful day with a strong + cool
west wind. Shot a [female symbol] caribou with
a lame leg and spent the day working
on the specimen.
Game seen:- 6 goat
8 caribou
2 coyote.
Lower Smokey. Aug. [August] 29/43 [1943]
High overcast. Rode from the
Pass to here - about 18 miles in
about 6 hours. All the way through
spruce, balsam + pine forest. On the
trail deer, caribou + moose tracks.
Game seen:- 1 caribou.
Adolphus lake. Aug. [August] 30/43. [1943]
Rain intermittently all day. Made the
20 miles in just 6 hours. Forested
country all day with many slides
coming down from the steep mountain
slopes. These slides are quite unlike
the ones further east. They are
heavily vegetated with Heracleum [underlined]
a prominent feature. New elements
in the vegetation since we left Byng
Pass are Lupine, Menziesia, Rhododendron
albiflorum + blueberry + a broad leaved willow.
Around the cabin is a typical
subalpine valley floor willow meadow.
Game:- 1 goat, 1 moose, 1 deer.
