- Aug 31 Wednesday. We telephoned Margaret to inquire if anything can be done to rescue Norman from this disastrous marriage. She replied 'Nothing: & he says he's happier than ever in his life – in spite of Catherine having quarrelled with all his best friend friends .' She will come out here, she thinks: the marriage is on the 4th. She prophesies some sticky disaster: as Laura does too. Proofs. Stack of heavy wood (120 francs the 3 cubic metres) for sawing & burning. We have changed from Highlife to Naja cigarettes.
