- Wed. June 1 Margaret betted on Bois Roussel 1/- each way ('Boy Russell' as the bookies called it) for the Derby & it won 20 to one. I & Mrs I the charwoman lost 5/- Portmarnock . Protocol with Laura for some hours but more energy expended in scaring up some money – managed from various agents & publishers to raise £370 – having hoped for perhaps £100. At Mr Mills bought a green ivory egg vinaigrette 1/6d . Len all afternoon with Laura: sweet & obstinate. Reading Snarleyow.
