Cavenagh Letterbook [08]

A volume of Sir Orfeur Cavenagh's private letterbooks from his time as Governor of the Straits Settlements (Singapore, Malaya, and Penang) from 1859-1867. Materials included also provide insight into his military career in India and Nepal (1837 -1858). Orfeur was an army officer and colonial governor (1820-1891), who served as the last India-appointed Governor of the Straits Settlements. Topics mentioned in this volume include the number of court cases tried in Singapore, information regarding new job appointments and requests or jobs/transfers, and more discussions about treaties amongst surrounding areas.
