War Diary of 1st Battalion Canadian Scottish Regiment, Vol. 65, January 1, 1945 to January 31, 1945
The war diaries are official records kept by the Battalions during a one month period. They contain the daily orders, correspondence, newsletters, and an intelligence log detailing troop activities, locations, and weather conditions. The war diaries detail the activities and movement of the 1st Battalion from training in Canada and England to active duty on the Western Front and their return to Victoria in January 1946. This diary was kept while at Goresbeek and Nijmegen, Holland. It has entries about leaves getting started again with 110 very excited men getting 8 day leaves and the chance to get back to Canada with two of this first group planning on getting married to their fiances while they are back home, a lecture about preparing defensive positions as a response to the Germans breaking through at Ardennes and it being a concern that it might happen in this location too, two men returning to the Battalion after being captured by the Germans for 3 months, dealing with snow and cold weather, a detailed description of the dugouts and how some of the men made them as comfortable as possible, the Pioneer Platoon demoloshing a former enemy position called the "Tank House", engaging in Operation "Pete" to discover as much as possible about the enemy forces holding LIttle Tebruk, "C" Coy HQ being hit by a shell from friendly fire, the Germans using a loudspeaker to read their news in German across the river, engaging in Operation "Alfred" where Sgt MacDonald and one man went missing, dealing with mines that the Germans send down the Waal River in an attempt to destroy the Nijmegen Bridge, and taking care of mail and fitness training while on a short break, among other activities and information. Includes appendices covering an intelligence log, battle logs, intelligence summaries, signal security notes, counter-attack plans, exercises Falcon, Indian and Buffalo, Artificial moonlight, counter-mortar notes, mines and mine laying, parols, traces, defence plans, field sketches, maps, administration notes, field messages, strength returns, orders, casualties, recommendations for honours and awards, "Two Came Back" report, notes on leaves, personal accounts of battle, Notes on the Canadian Infantry Divisional School, correspondence about the pipe band, the Maple Leaf and the West Wall Climber.

- Scanned on Plustek Opticbook at 600 dpi TIFF. an 1945 includes oversize diagrams and maps printed on translucent yellow tracing paper in cyan tones. Laid over white paper to enhance readability and scanned on the TTI/Betterlight (600 dpi, camera height 700, Bent5 tone). The map was exceptionally fragile, barely held together, except the one folded portion which is stuck to itself. The reverse of this page was not scanned to minimize any damage that might have ocurred from flipping it over. (After scanning, it was refolded and returned to the file.
