- Dec 9 Thursday Finished Chapter XIII Talks a great deal of the day with Mary (her last day) about John her husband who is violent and homicidal. She went away with Nan. I walked a long way in the streets, got misdirected, lost. Laura writing a broadcast talk about poetry-reading, helping Mary with poems. She & I walked to Alan's but did not go in, somehow. Alan's Auden letter turned down everywhere.
