Frau Thelen had done 16 out of 39 pages. Told Short about boat. Bought L amethyst & diamond ring, square cut, 225 pesetas at Pomar. Also old handsome, red & white & blackskirt for americano 25p[ts], morey chair 40, Louis Philippe grey green silk dress with brown patterns & lace, originally 500, for 170 pesetas. Also at Casas bottle electric-light for Posada 10 , slender-legged morey table for Posada entrada 50, & two low black-leather, octagonal nailed, old almond-wood chairs for Posada chimney-corner to go with the mulberry & orange-wood table there25 each. Also in market bowls & basins, & at Cartuja glasses & tumblers. The three Englishmen at Alhambra: “I heard Miss Kelly making some pretty severe remarks about you this morning.” “What, me?” “Yes, she said you tried to rape her last night.” “O much exaggerated, & anyhow she made it quite clear weeks ago there was nothing doing.” ... “You can never tell with a nursing sister how far you can go.” Lunch in Parisien with Gelat Madora Francisquito, Schw, Str. Laura wrote to Constables about Epilogue final printing instructions. On way back near Valldemosa Valldemossa the engine heated, had to return. (This was when we got the Casas things.) Walk in Macarena quarter: dirty courts, healthy , women with sewing machines, gipsies. Honor & Mary to supper. Letter from A.L., most amicable & pacific, apologising. Letter from Michael Roberts about James Reeves & anthology to which we wrote an immediate answer about withdrawing if J.R. not included etc. Posted it at 2.30 A.M.
