- Sat. Nov 14th Laura read me her Troy preface and I made suggestions. Another version of The Manor House . Review by Helen Fletcher, in Time & Tide answered as overleaf. (Previous trouble with Laura). 'Gilfillan' & Norman Honor & Gordon to lunch. Then to Dorland Hall to hear Stephen Spender on Modern Poetry. All about aeroplanes, politics and Spain. Two verses, quoted from Wilfred Owen and Auden. Gloomy, sissy voice. We heard it relayed, the hall being crowded, with gloomy preface by Herbert Read. Boil not yet gone: I spend most of the day in bed. (Orange juice). Read The Inimitable Jeeves Good news from Madrid. Up till 2. listening to Laura's Trojan Afterword, & making suggestions.
