ABSTRACT: Major Gerry Resch Born 9 December 1931. Was deployed in Montreal out of Shilo, Manitoba in the 1970 October Crisis. Commanded a unit of 30 men in La Salle and was responsible for the Cognowag Indian reserve. Provided body guards for politicians at risk and protected strategic locations. Also maintained surveillance over main power lines crossing the St. Lawrence. Served in a unique unit because all 30ish members were leaving the forces after this event. Speaks of army-police relationship; concludes "We got on…I wasn't impressed." Says invoking the War Measures Act "stopped everything in its tracks." Speaks of how the government might respond today is similar circumstances arose. Concludes by referring to the level of intensity and stress during the crisis and discusses potential for things to have gone wrong.
