- July 11th Thursday Work has ceased on the Posada. Reading Richards & writing to him & Morley, Faber & Faber saying that is good. Looked up various Greek things for Laura. To sea. Gordon returned because no boat & I met him down there. Bompiani wanted permission to alter things in Italian version of Claudius : chiefly libels against Livia. Wired, yes. Honor told of Posada's invasion by German tourists. Gelat brought my chair at last. A bit short, but comfortable if one sits at a slight slant. Cherry wood; bull leather, old form. Thought "Old-Soldier, Sahib" a possible title. Paid Fonda for Sabater 150 p[ts]. In evening iced lemonade at Can Torrent & Gordon decided to go by ship because of seasonal train accidents in France. Helped Laura find [out] about mules, red arsenic, Paphogonien leather helmets, box-wood etc. for Troy . Mary typing at [Can] Torrent.
