Taking class struggle as the key, counter-attack the rightist wind to overturn verdicts: selected fine-arts big-character posters by the workers of Yangquan (以阶级斗争为纲,回击右倾翻案风)
This poster is part of the campaign against Deng Xiaoping (as yet unnamed) in the spring of 1976. Created by the Yangquan workers’ amateur arts group, comprising amateur artists from agricultural machinery, mining, steel, and railroad industries, and from fine arts and propaganda divisions of workers’ cultural palaces in Yangquan. Yangquan, in Shanxi Province, is an industrial centre that nurtures amateur artists, and was active in the Cultural Revolution. Sixteen individual posters are included in the display, followed by a "publisher's statement". Price: 25 fen

- Publisher’s statement [at bottom right]: Wind and thunder shake, standards and banners are raised, such is the world of men [two lines from Mao’s 1965 poem “Chongshang Jinggangshan” (Reascending Jinggangshan), first released in January 1976] The great struggle to counter-attack the rightist wind to overturn verdicts personally launched and led by the Great Leader Chairman Mao is in the process of deepening and development. The unrepentant capitalist-roader within the Party has thrown forth the revisionist agenda of “taking the three directives as the key,” and stirred up a rightist wind to overturn verdicts, attacking Chairman Mao’s proletarian revolutionary line, counter-attacking and settling old scores with the proletariat, overturning the verdict on the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, and scheming to achieve the heinous goal of restoring capitalism. In order to protect Chairman Mao’s revolutionary line, to consolidate and develop the great achievements of the Cultural Revolution and the movement to Criticize Lin Biao and Confucius, and to exercise comprehensive dictatorship over the bourgeoisie, Yangquan’s worker-artists have taken up their paint-brushes and created a number of fine-arts big-character posters and propaganda paintings, posting them throughout factories and mines, and thereby forcefully condemned the revisionist line of the unrepentant capitalist-roader within the Party, to give a powerful rejoinder to the rightist wind to overturn verdicts! We have made a selection from them to be used as headers for reports and to be displayed. [signed] The editors. March 1976.
