ABSTRACT: Major-General Herb Pitts Born on June 14, 1929, Herb Pitts was very involved socially growing up. He played on many school sports teams and was part of many school clubs. He started at Royal Roads Canadian Services College in September 1948 and was commissioned as Lieutenant at Royal Military College in Kingston, ON in 1952. He formed friendships during training that have lasted through the present. He experienced regimental life with the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada, and the Canadian Airborne Regiment. Combat experience included one year in the Korean War from 1952-1953. During this experience he became very close with the men in his platoon. After Korea he served in various countries for Canada. He retired from the Regular Forces in 1978, but held four honorary positions after. He is still very involved in military life, including regimental associations and veterans associations, and has found that the shared experience of the military brings people together.
