Mount Currie instrumental enrichment workshop
PublicProduction material features part of a multi-day workshop for teachers and parents on Instrumental Enrichment (FIE) conducted by Lorna Wanosts’a7 Williams in Mount Currie. The first section features Wanosts’a7 and participants working through and discussing class exercises. This section runs from the beginning of tape VR71, and continues until the end of tape VR73. The second section features a discussion centring around Feuerstein’s theory of structural cognitive modifiability (SCM). The discussion also touches on cognitive testing; Feuerstein’s work with children with Down syndrome; how beliefs and prejudices shape educational opportunities and outcomes; institutional racism; mediated learning experience; revitalization of the Líl̓wat language, Ucwalmícwts; and Wanosts’a7 work at the Vancouver School District with Indigenous students and families. This section runs from the beginning of tape VR74, and continues until the end of tape VR76. There is no tape VR75. The final section features participants working on exercises while Wanosts’a7 provides guidance, along with Wanosts’a7’s closing remarks for the day. This section runs from the beginning of tape VR77, and continues until 13:52 on tape VR78. Additional material of the exterior and schoolyard of Sir William MacDonald Elementary can be found following the final section. The school has since been renamed χpey̓ Elementary School.
