War Diary of 1st Battalion Canadian Scottish Regiment, Vol. 75, October 1, 1945 to January 4, 1946
The war diaries are official records kept by the Battalions during a one month period. They contain the daily orders, correspondence, newsletters, and an intelligence log detailing troop activities, locations, and weather conditions. The war diaries detail the activities and movement of the 1st Battalion from training in Canada and England to active duty on the Western Front and their return to Victoria in January 1946. This diary was kept while at Ede, Holland. It has entries about many rumours flying constantly as to when they are to leave Holland during the beginning of October, continuing the work projects for the Dutch government with the Ede Memorial Park having been completed, prepping for a move away from Ede and spending a couple days in a transition camp before heading to Calais and then Aldershot, inspection by HRH Princess Royal and her being very interest in Wallace, a guard of 100 men marched through London to the Mansion House with Wallace and the pipe band where the HRH Princess Royal presented the Battalion with an oil painting of "Wallace", moving to Southampton and setting sail aboard the Queen Elizabeth, some missing Christmas dinner served aboard the ship due to rough seas, arriving in New York and taking a train across the continent, arriving in Victoria and marching to the Armoury and being well received by the whole town, the Battalion being officially dismissed on January 4th, among other activities and information. Includes appendices covering orders, messages regarding the surrender of German troops, an invitation to the Canadian Scottish reunion dinner on February 6, 1946, a program for the reception at Victoria for the 1st Battalion including a menu for the officer's dinner, copied of the "Ohtwoee" newsletters from October to November, program and instructions for the reception in Victoria, B.C. for the 1st Battalion including a map of the parade route, a letter to all members of the Canadian Scottish family and friends of the regiment with instructions for the details of the reception including maps, speeches welcoming the 1st Battalion back to Victoria, instructions for guests travelling from Vancouver to Victoria on special steamer to witness welcome to the 1st Battalion, newspaper clippings regarding the return of the troops in January 1946 including photographs of the troops and Wallace,
