The Daily Colonist front page from November 11, 1918, announces the end of hostilities in Europe, as well as the news of local celebrations: "VANCOUVER CELEBRATES ... At midnight tonight Vancouver turned out in full force to celebrate peace. Within a few minutes after the Canadian press wire had brought the news ... thousands of motor cars and tens of thousands of pedestrians were on the main streets, while every whistle and every bell in the city added to the uproar. there is nobody in bed in Vancouver tonight."
