Interview with Bob Ahrens about Provincial Parks history

Downloadable Content

Part of a collection of interviews about the development of BC Parks from members of the Elders Council for Parks in British Columbia. The Elders Council for Parks in British Columbia is an independent society, whose members are retired parks system employees and conservation advocates who have dedicated a significant portion of their lives to parks and protected areas in B.C. The interview concerns the following topics: discussion of how the government figured Parks and Recreation within other programs/branches (the reorganization of 1978); a concern that the government is going to sell public Parks to private commercial interests; the focus on Marine Parks; the origins of “Nature Conservancy Areas”; Parks standards, and why BC’s Parks feel like National Parks.
