- Oct 2 Sat. Went over yesterday's Belisarius & did 10 more pages, ending chapter XII. Laura still on 'newspaper recommendation'. Archery & marbles as usual. Jenny rang up about Charles & said that all was settled. In evening to Dorking (Alix, Harry, L & I) to a cinema & saw Astaire & Rogers in Shall We Dance? & laughed at Hitler & Musso in the News Pictorial, & bought a glass sailors' rolling pin for Alix (3/6) & sandwiches; & a beer in the 'Shades'; & saw a number of red-headed men; on returning I had 4 brandies to cure a stomach shaken by the car; & a kidney supper.
