The Mind of a Child (1995) is an award winning documentary examining the lasting impact of the residential schools on generations of children and Indigenous educator Lorna Wánosts’a7 Williams’ search for better teaching methods for children of all cultures who have been affected by racism and poverty. Wánosts’a7 search leds her to Israel to study with child psychologist Reuven Feuerstein who began developing his methods working with children traumatized by their experiences during WWII. These same teaching methods that prove effective for Indigenous children are also useful for teachers working with African American children at risk in inner city schools in Washington DC.
