- July 29 Thursday Alix & Harry away. In the morning did 8 pages of Belisarius , Chapter 2. Accuracy with bow increasing. Alan sent Vegetius précis. At night finished draft of chapter 2. Wrote to Watt approving Cassell contract. Walk with Laura in wood, away from Ewhurst. Fields given over to rabbits & thistles. Found a surprising accuracy with bow & arrow. Karl with a cataclysmic cold. Reading Procopius. Franco offensive at Brunete broken: the losses greater on his side, perhaps.
