War Diary of 1st Battalion Canadian Scottish Regiment, Vol. 41, January 1, 1943 to January 31, 1943

The war diaries are official records kept by the Battalions during a one month period. They contain the daily orders, correspondence, newsletters, and an intelligence log detailing troop activities, locations, and weather conditions. The war diaries detail the activities and movement of the 1st Battalion from training in Canada and England to active duty on the Western Front and their return to Victoria in January 1946. This diary was kept while at Angmering and Monk's Gate Common, England. It has entries about having a move order and prepping to move to Wiston Park but the move being cancelled last minute, the pipe band being broadcast over the BBC that will be transmitted to Canada, prepping to move to Monk's Gate Common near Horsham, concerns about security of information as the local civilians were all aware of the battalion's move, moving to Monk's Gate and having to clean up the camp, an air raid warning but no enemy planes sighted, the pipe band playing in Horsham and being a great help in winning over the towns-people wherever the regiment goes, and lectures in German tactics, among other activities and information. Includes appendices covering orders, strength returns (daily & weekly), training syllabi, administrative memos, exercises, sniper concentration, and movement orders.
