A volume of Sir Orfeur Cavenagh's private letterbooks from his time as Governor of the Straits Settlements (Singapore, Malaya, and Penang) from 1859-1867. Materials included also provide insight into his military career in India and Nepal (1837 -1858). Orfeur was an army officer and colonial governor (1820-1891), who served as the last India-appointed Governor of the Straits Settlements. Topics mentioned in this volume include the amount of crime in Malacca, the deportation of Chinese Rebels and their families to the Stations of the Straits Settlements, and repeated warnings to the Sultan of Tringanu to stop investigating the Peninsula.
