The Call to Arms: a descriptive fantasia cover and first page, by Ezra Read

Public

The cover and first page of music of The Call to Arms: a descriptive fantasia, by Ezra Read. Ezra Read was born in Willenhall, Staffordshire in 1862. He was apprenticed to a blacksmith but after finishing his training he opted to try his hand at making a living as a pianist. He travelled with orchestras and over the next 25 years his compositions were published in both London and United States. Read's compositions were intended for the amateur pianist for entertainment for family and friends. For inspiration he often used current events and such is the case for the descriptive fantasy ?The Call to Arms?. This is a piano composition with a number of continuous movements with names such as ?War Declared? and "Recruiting".(from A brief life of Ezra Read n.d. 4 Nov. 2011)
