War Diary of 1st Battalion Canadian Scottish Regiment, Vol. 28, December 1, 1941 to December 31, 1941

Public

The war diaries are official records kept by the Battalions during a one month period. They contain the daily orders, correspondence, newsletters, and an intelligence log detailing troop activities, locations, and weather conditions. The war diaries detail the activities and movement of the 1st Battalion from training in Canada and England to active duty on the Western Front and their return to Victoria in January 1946. This diary was kept while at Paxhill Park and Denne Park, England. It has entries about setting up camp at Paxhill in less than ideal conditions, getting the movement order to Denne Park, setting up camp in difficult conditions again, finding that the troops are welcomed by civilians in Horsham and that they are spending a good deal of their off-duty time there, making up an assault course, a grenade throwing demonstration, a private being killed by a hit and run driver, fog preventing training on a gun range, attending an Xmas party at the local Y.M.C.A, having their Christmas dinner, and planning a New Years dinner, among other activities and information.
