The war diaries detail the activities and movement of the 1st Battalion from training in Canada and England to active duty on the Western Front and their return to Victoria in January 1946. This diary was kept while in Victoria and Otter Point. It has entries about recruitment numbers, leaking buildings, the Salvation Army opening a reading and writing room, inoculations, installing a new phone, weather conditions, help guarding the gate from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, collecting money from the men to buy chickens to roast for Thanksgiving dinner, seeing the Northern Lights, and arresting a soldier for failing to report back in time, among other activities and information.
