War Diary of 1st Battalion Canadian Scottish Regiment, Vol. 70, June 1, 1945 to June 30, 1945

The war diaries are official records kept by the Battalions during a one month period. They contain the daily orders, correspondence, newsletters, and an intelligence log detailing troop activities, locations, and weather conditions. The war diaries detail the activities and movement of the 1st Battalion from training in Canada and England to active duty on the Western Front and their return to Victoria in January 1946. This diary was kept while at Woerden and Ede. It has entries about preparing for the Battalion Sports Day to be held in the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam, voting in the Federal and Ontario elections, still censoring mail, some men getting accepted to fight on the Eastern Front, some of the troops taking courses offered by the Vetrinary School at Utrecht which is one of the finest schools of its kind in Europe, holding the Battalion Sports Meet in Amsterdam at the same stadium where the 1928 Olympics were held, the first round of volunteers leaving for the Eastern Front, moving to Ede and getting billets cleaned out by collaborators of the Dutch Underground, the Battalion winning and getting to represent the Division at the forthecoming meet to decide the champion of the First Canadian Army, a lecture from the wartime leader of the Dutch Underground in the Ede district about the harshness imposed upon the people by the Germans and how they were combatted by Organized Reistance Groups, sponsoring a horse race, the Battalion winning the Tabloid Championship of the First Canadian Army held at the Maple Leaf Stadium in Hilversum, the pipe band being asked to play at a "Fete" in Amsterdam to celebrate their liberation by the Canadians, some reorganization of the Battalion, taking a list of the first men being allowed to take leave when Amsterdam will be opened as a Leave Centre for Canadians on July 1, and holding weekly dances, among other activities and information. Includes appendices covering a program of the Tabloid Sports Championships held on June 20, orders, and a movemet order to Ede.
