War Diary of 1st Battalion Canadian Scottish Regiment, Vol. 74, October 1, 1945 to October 31, 1945
The war diaries are official records kept by the Battalions during a one month period. They contain the daily orders, correspondence, newsletters, and an intelligence log detailing troop activities, locations, and weather conditions. The war diaries detail the activities and movement of the 1st Battalion from training in Canada and England to active duty on the Western Front and their return to Victoria in January 1946. This diary was kept while at Ede, Holland. It has entries about with only a few weeks left in Holland everyone taking every opportunity to visit the Dutch friends they have made, prepping for the move from Holland, continuing the work, recreational, and educational programs, a group of men representing the Battalion at a celebration held in Deventer to honour the men who liberated it which included the efforts of the Battalion along the Ijssel River in April 1945, announcing a poster competition to aid in the Battalion program publicizing the forthcoming 9th Victory Loan, starting a new agricultural course and continuiung with the other educational, work, and recreational programs, learning that they will leave Europe mid-November, some of the Battalion taking a trip to Berlin, a lecture by a Canadian Intelligence Officer about interviews with the German Generals who opposed the First Canadian Battle from Normandy to Northern Germany, holding meetings to support Victory Bond sales, and distributing Postal Redirection Cards to be filled out and sent to the Postal Tracing Section so that mail can be forwarded after the move, among other activities and information. Includes appendices covering repatriation instructions for those returning to Canada, Nominal Roll of Personnel Proceeding on Repat Draft for officers and OR, orders, memos regardning the return of units to Canada, memo regarding redirection of mail, a memo about the policies for repatriated personnel, and a document describing the welcome home arrangements for formed units.
