- Thursday July 4 Finished going over Schw. autobiography now called “Almost Forgotten Times” as far as Karl had gone (except for a page or two of which the manuscript is in Palma). Posada. No Pepé: men had been chipping away a wall (live rock) which three days ago they were told not to touch. Tiles laid in kitchen. Went to Pepe at lunch time to hurry him up. Honor & Julian to lunch (Gordon, Mary, Joan in Palma). Did plastering electric light point in Mesquida. Proof-copies of Progress of Stories to Maisie, John & Lucie, Isabel M. Letters to first & last. Went over remaining pages of C.F.V. Schw. to Carl to type. Julian cried: so cut up green tomatoes for pickle. Posada. Entrada done: bath being made. Key-stone on Honor's window raised, guides for tiles in corridor, bath pipe escape, mina & steps being made, windows in. Liddell Hart writes “So we are both 'carted'. Only heard indirectly.” From Eliot, pleased. Pinker, ditto. Astounding £500 cheque from Korda. Sent Nancy £150 (1/2 arrears). To Dulan for Schliemann. Steak at Viña at 10 o'clock for Laura & Mary.
