Production material centres around a roundtable discussion with Lorna Wanosts’a7 Williams, Lettie Battle, Bill Mussell (Skwah First Nation), Sharon Wilson (Nuxalk Nation), Yvette Jackson, Marian Vriend, and Francine Herlihy[?] during Feuerstein’s Summer Institute in Shoresh, Israel. The discussion provides the opportunity for educators and professionals both racialized and working within racialized communities in Vancouver, the United States, France, and Amsterdam to share stories, experiences, and perspectives on the intersection of culture and education. The discussion focuses on Reuven Feuerstein’s characterization of cultural difference and cultural deprivation; how cultural differences are treated in inequitable societies and how this shapes the beliefs individuals have towards their own culture and overall potential; the role of educators in empowering individuals to see their potential to succeed and meet life’s challenges, as well as limitations of that role in helping to meet that goal; and impressions of Feuerstein and how his mission and work has empowered them as educators. The roundtable discussion runs from 15:08 in part 1, and continues until 25:12 in part 7. Following this is a brief section to gather ambient sound from the room, followed by Bill Mussell’s impressions of Feuerstein at 26:40 until the end of part 7 which were missed earlier in the discussion. Additional sequences of Reuven Feuerstein giving demonstrations with some unidentified students as part of the Summer Institute can be found proceeding the discussion.
