After tea at the Mackenzie Robinson with
Jim [J.D.] + Evie [Cowan] + a remote cousin Doddie Cowan,
sister of Hugh Francis Cowan we went round
to see our flat. Major I.B.C. Neilson has
been able to clear the decks for us +
says we can move in anytime.
July 19. Explored the shops of Princes Street this
morning + in the afternoon went to the
Royal Scottish Museum. We were very
favourably impressed with the latter +
only got part way through the first
hall (mammals). We are much struck
by the squat build of so many of
the Edinburgh Scots. Young + old thick
ankles seem to be de rigeur.
July 20. Went to church at St [Saint] Marys. Congregation
small + service struck all of us as cold
+ lacking in conviction. This seems to arise
from too much attention to choir. As a result
many of the tunes are too complicated
for congregation participation.
In the afternoon tea'd with Jim + Evie.
Nice day + we enjoyed the walk over.
In the evening Aunt Alice + Dr Stevens called.
