- Upper Alpine Zone [underlined]. Main indicator plant S. [Senecio] keniodendron [underlined]
with bases surrounded by a thick mass of Alchemilla argyrophylla [underlined]
Where dry ridges occur Agrostis typhylla [partial word crossed out] trachy [trachyphylla] [underlined], Deschampsia flexuosa [underlined]
+ Anthoxanthum nivale [underlined. Valeriana kilimandscharo [underlined] is abundant
on the cliffs I found Gladiolus watsonioides [underlined], Sedum ruwenzoriense [underlined] +
Anemone thompsonii [underlined]. There is a rich scree flora. -
On the valley floor among the large Agrostis tussocks
Myosotis keniensis [underlined], Cerastium afromontana [underlined] + Carduus platyphyllum [underlined]
etc.
In some of the high tarns a Potamogeton [underlined] grows also
species of Crassula [underlined] + Subularia [underlined]. I was interested to see a Lazula [underlined]
around the margin of Hook Tarn though it was not abundant.
The Nival Zone [all underlined] is defined as the zone above S. [Senecio] keniodendron [underlined]
at 14,300' [feet] Agrostis, Arolus, Carduus, Lobelia, Helichrysum, Citrium
etc. go up there. Helichrysum brownii to 16,000' [feet].
The small low growing Senecio [underlined] I took looks like S. [Senecio]
heniophytum [underlined]
