The usual jackals sat + watched but no hyenas appeared or vultures. In the P.M. [evening] there was a reception at the city hall in honour of Canadian centennial followed by a party at the home of Mr + Mrs Ed Hepner. He is in charge of External Aid as a 3rd secretary in the embassy. It was a dull party as most such are + we left before eats at 11:30. Met Gordon Jones + wife - he is here with Spartan Air Services + several other former U.B.C. [University of British Columbia] people. It was a truly beautiful location with a magnificent view over the rolling hills toward the Abodares [Aberdares] in one direction + Mt [Mount] Kenya in the other.
