He immediately became a folk hero and his exploits were celebrated in poems and prose. However, the fame was too much for him and he became a drunkard and was employed in the theatre to recount his heroism. There is also a strong possibility that it was not him, but a soldier named Matsuma Akitaro who was the first to scale the wall at Pyongyang. However, since Harada had already been decorated, it would have been too embarassing for the military authorities to change the records. So Matsuma was intimidated to keep quiet and worked in his father's antique store. i.w Picture of our armed forces defeating the Chinese soldiers at Pingyang (Pyongyang) Adachi, Ginko (1874-1897); woodcut; Harold and Vera Mortimer-Lamb Purchase Fund; aggv 91.42.10 l.x The Invasion of the City of Niuzhuang by the Japanese Army 1893 Utagawa Kokunimasa (active 1894-1893); woodcut; Asian Art Purchase Fund; aggv 87.23.1 BLACK AND WHITE YOKOHAMA PRINTS 1.1 English Lady Ikkeisai Yoshinobu (1838-1890); woodcut; Fred and Isabel Pollard Collection; aggv 62.24 1.2 The Dutch Utagawa Yoshitora (active 1830-1880); woodcut; Fred and Isabel Pollard Collection; aggv 62.20 1.3 The United States Ichikawa Yoshikazu (active 1830-1870); woodcut; Fred and Isabel Pollard Collection; aggv 62.13 1.4 The English Ichikawa Yoshikazu (active 1830-1870); woodcut; Fred and Isabel Pollard Collection; aggv 62.11 1.3 Pictures of a Mercantile Establishment in Yokohama 1861 Utagawa Sadahide (1807-1873); woodcut; Fred and Isabel Pollard Collection; aggv 62.26 1.6 British Legation on the Shores of Yokohama Ando Hiroshige III (1843-1894); woodcut; Fred and Isabel Pollard Collection; aggv 62.14 1.7 Picture of a foreign establishment in Yokohama 1861 Ando Hiroshige II (1826-1869); woodcut; Fred and Isabel Pollard Collection; aggv 1.8 The Capital of England, London City 1871 Series: Bankoku Keihin Denbun Mosha Shu Harimaze-e (Collection of Pictures from Foreign Lands Known by Hearsay); Hasagawa Sadanobu (1868-1912); woodcut oban; Gift of the Senora Ryan Estate 1.9 James Watt of England, Inventor of the Steam Engine Anonymous, Meiji period (1868-1912); woodcut; Ralph Greenhill Collection PRINTS EMPHASIZING CHANGES 1.10 Hot Air Balloon Choei (late 19th century); woodcut; Private Collection 1.11 Yokohama Steam Train Anonymous (1870s); woodcut; Ralph Greenhill Collection 1.12 Takamawa Train Station Gyokusho (active 1870s); woodcut; Private Collection 1.13 High Bridge at Musashi 1894 Torii Kiyotada (1875-1941); woodcut; Ralph Greenhill Collection 1.14 Edo Bridge in Front of Post Office ca. 1875 Ando Hiroshige III (1843-1894); woodcut; Ralph Greenhill Collection 1.15 Snow Scene at Kudanzaka (note lighthouse) Series: Eight Views of Tokyo; Utagawa Yoshitora (fl. 1850-1880); woodcut; Fred and Isabel Pollard Collection; aggv 62.19 1.16 Scene from a Puppet Play of Kyogen 1893 (where actors are impersonating foreigners) Kochoro Kunisada III (1848-1920); woodcut; Private Collection 1.17 Autumn Moon Hasegawa Konobu (active late 19th century); woodcut; Robin Bourne Fund aggv 94.15.2 168/ MEIJI
