A carefully documented comparative study of anti-Chinese feelings and its consequences in the Pacific Northwest and B.C, over a 90 year period ending in 1910. Although there is a major focus in anti-Chinese activities in the Pacific Northwest, the author shows how anti-Chinese feelings built up quickly in B.C. after the introduction of universal manhood suffrage in 1873, and how this led to serious difficulties between the province and the federal government.
