- B 9 Hunter Group.
July 5, 1939. Beaver
I found a small lake on the Island designated
as B.9 on plan. In this lake are
unmistakable sign of beaver habitation
I have had no time for further exploration
to-day.
Aug [August] 14 [1939]. Found an abandoned beaver dam at the
foot of a small slough on Campania Island near
Otter Pass.
August 15 [1939] Colby Bay, Banks Island.
Found some fine Beaver meadows about 4 miles
inland from Colby Bay. One of the old Beaver
dams was at least 90 yards in length. On
a small lake nearby I found fairly fresh work
+ cuttings the dam had been repaired this spring
and some of the cuttings were quite fresh.
In another small lake high up on a ridge
nearby there was sign of very extensive cutting
of hemlock + yellow cedar. the lake had three
good size dams on it. All this work appeared to
be at least 10 or 12 years abandoned.
