- Canis lupus
Willow Creek. May 19/44. [1944]
Many tracks of all ages on trail today
also many pellets.
[Frank] Burstrom states that 4 wolves stayed
around here all winter + that
after bands passed through.
This last winter kills found were
3 moose, 4 deer, 2 caribou.
" [Willow Creek] May 21/44 [1944]
According to Rufe Neighbor of Entrance
wolves all just as numerous outside
the park as they are inside. One
group of wolves that passed through
his area last winter killed + ate
2 horses in 2 days. Said to
number 19 wolves.
There is a widespread opinion among
wardens + outfitters that the wolves
harry grizzlies to such degree that
the bears pull out. During the
last day or two I have heard several
accounts - none of them first hand
of wolves being seen chasing or
badgering bear.
Willow Cr. [Creek] May 24/44 [1944]
Followed fresh tracks of 3 wolves
, they were moving separately +
apparently aimlessly through the open
timber, there were many fresh
game tracks around but they were
not paying any attention to them.
