Field, B.C. [British Columbia] Aug. [August] 2/44 [1944].
Today - sunshine with 2 or 3 heavy
showers. We hiked in to the head
of Sherbrooke Creek. The west side of
Paget Mt. [Mountain] is largely burned to
the lake shore + here there is
an open stand of young pines
+ aspens with a dense shrub
growth of Mt [mountain] Rhododendron [words crossed out] Menziesia
+ Shepherdia - a few mt [mountain] ash.
grouse berry abundant. The heavy
berry crop was the centre of
a populous assemblage of birds
but there was no sign
of bear activity.
Toward the head of the lake the
trail passes through some typical
mature spruce - balsam forest
+ comes out onto some creekside
meadows dominated by Salix [underlined]
Bebbiana. Trolbias [?], heliotrope
+ paint brush are conspicuous
flowers. Veratrum fairly common.
The west side of the valley is
