  • Odocoileus virginianus. Kootenay Park, B.C. May 17, 1945. Whitetails very numerous from just above Simpson Monument to Settlers flats. 9 A.M. - 3 PM. Raining + cold. Count [underlined]:- [female symbol] 29, [male symbol] 5, fawns 6, Sex? 4 = 44. Parasites:- A doe collected had many Cephenemyia [underlined] - 23 Ornithodoros in her ear passages - see autopsy sheet 45-5-17. Banff, Alta [Alberta] May 19/45. [1945] Warden Matthews reports no sign of the Saskatchewan whitetails during the winters of either 43 [1943] - 1944 or 44 [1944] - 1945. Waterton Lake. July 18/45. [1945] Mr [F.H.] Riggall states that the whitetail deer came over in summer from the Flathead + a few linger in the lower areas on the east slope but do not seem to become established About 20 head are estimated to be in the park. Watchman Lake, Alta [Alberta] - B.C. July 26/45 [1945] Saw 4 whitetail yesterday on the way in here + Ernie Young saw 2 fawns today up on the shoulder of Castleguard. On July 27 saw + shot a [male symbol] fawn just above camp. Specimen listed in Hatter catalogue No external parasites
