  • Canis latrans. [underlined] Banff. May 19/45. [1945] Saw 2 coyotes between mile 18 + Banff. One at a carcase [carcass] (elk) that had been practically consumed in 2 nights - doubtless by more than one coyote. Saw a coyote at MacKay Creek in Kootenay Park. All Warden reports in Banff Park this year report an increase of coyotes over a year ago. Predation:- For account of chasing deer in the Bow Valley see Green's report + Mitchell. Banff May 21/45 [1945] Yesterday saw 3 coyotes about 6 miles E. [east] of town on the railroad track Today measured one large male 1155, 320, 190, 120. Wt [weight] 30 lbs. [pounds] Stomach empty.
