up. Cornus [underlined], a Prunus [underlined], three Sheph [words crossed out]
Quite a lot of Shepherdia, some
Symphoricarpos, both junipers [underlined].
The cornus is moderately abundant
in the coulees in more moist
areas + is associated with a lone
growing willow + Shepherdia.
There are numerous young aspens
of all ages. A few shrubby Cinquefoil
on the drier slopes. Ribes [underlined] not common.
Bear berry is the dominant
plant over all the slopes except
right at lake level. The 3 vetch-
like plants are abundant along
with 3 or 4 grasses. Lower down
grass becomes dominant + there
is an admixture of sage.
The cornus is browsed to an
average of 30% + is in good condition
with plenty of flower. Willow is
browsed 20 to 25%. Cherry 10%.
Indications of heavier browsing
on cornus [underlined] prior to 1939
Rose abundant at lower elevations
particularly in moist spots.
Aspen, rose, shepherdia, sage,
bearberry, poplar show no twig
browsing. The only species browsed
are those mentioned above.
The 3 vetch-like plants are favored
food at present.
