  • Journal. are abundant while alder, Rubus macropetalus [underlined], a broad leaved shrub something like Shepherdia [underlined], and [word crossed out] Amelanchier and Elder are less common. Ledum abundant in muskegs. Browse: The tall willow is heavily browsed (about 95% above 3 ft. [feet]) the twin flowered honeysuckle about 85% alder 20%, Amelanchier 85% Menziesia [underlined] 10%, dwarf willows 25 to 75% depending upon height. The Menziesia is being leaf browsed now, as is the willow, Ribes + Rosa The above browsing represents primarily Moose winter + spring feeding plus some elk early spring work. Game seen. On way over from Banff. 140 elk cows 54 calves 4 " bulls. Vermilion Crossing, B.C. [British Columbia] June 24/43 [1943] Made examination 19 miles W. [West] of here by care + found general range conditions good. On the summit there is excellent aspen reproduction. Willows + Lonicera have suffered heavier browsing than anything else but even they are in fair shape. The tall birch is lightly browsed.
