Healy Cr. [Creek] June 18/43. [1943]
Climbed south side of west peak of mt [mount]
Bourgeau to an altitude of 7500'.
On way up examined aspen covered
sidehill. Elk winter activity has been
intense. Sign indicates utilization
until now of 40 elk to 5 deer to
3 goat to 1 moose
Elk have chawed large numbers of
aspens, also some large willows. However
the shrub + tree vegetation is surviving
except for willows locally + the
small pockets of Cornus + Betula. [underlined] This
area now has a maximum winter
population.
Winter goat sign is everywhere
but the sheep leave this mt [mountain] in
winter + cross to the N. [North] side of
the Bow. [James (Jim)] Simpson has seen them
crossing both spring + fall.
Game Seen. 1 mule deer
3 elk
2 goat
4 ewe sheep + 3 lambs.
