  • Odocoileus hemionus [Mule deer] Byng Pass. Aug [August] 25/43 [1943] Quite a number of deer tracks on the trails here but have seen none yet. W Migrations:- Warden [Mickey] McGuire tells me that the deer from the Smoky watershed mostly pull down the " [Smoky] in the autumn. Possibly some of the Mowitch creek deer were from the Sulphur? Lower Smoky Cabin Aug. [August] 29/43 [1943] Mule deer winter from Indian cache slide 3 miles down the Smoky from here + from there on down. [Warden Mickey] McGuire reports that 3 mule deer does with distinctive markings have been around the Adolphus Lake cabin every summer since he came on this district in 1940. This would indicate very mild predator activity. Adolphus Lake. Aug [August] 30/43 [1943] Saw a single doe here this evening. Summer pelage. Jasper, Alta. [Alberta] Sept [September] 2. 2 large bucks + 1 doe in complete winter pelage + a doe in summer, antlers in velvet.
