4 [left page number] [blank] 5 [right page number] [photo, left] #8 Dan Sullivan Arrested by Sergt [Sargeant] Walker & [and] Cons [constable] Perdue Aug 27th 97 & [and] charged with stealing a watch and chain from F. Rampley whilst he was asleep in his room at the California Hotel, also stealing 2 pairs of slippers from Gilmore & [and] McCandles & [and] sentence to 9 M. [months] H.L. [hard labour] on each charge to run concurrently from 28th Aug 1897. This man had just come down from the Skeena River where he was supposed to be fishing & [and] prospecting. [photo, right] #9 Jew Wing (Chinese) Arrested by Perdue & [and] Palmer [inserted] Sept 1st 1897 and charged with stealing jewellery etc from Dr. A. E. Verrinder to the value of $225.00 This Chinaman was in the employ of Dr. Verrrinder as cook and was left in charge of the house whilst the family were away, he brok and outwside window and turned the clothes & [and] contents of the rooms upside down and made it appear that Burglars had been at work. Committed for trial and acuitted on the grounds that he was induced to confess
