6 [left page number] [blank] 7 [right page number] [photo, left] #10 John Johnson Arrested by Cons [constable] Walker & [and] Gilchrist charged with stealing a Gold ring valued at $4.00 on the 16th Sept 97 the property of E Andernack a jeweller and sentenced to 6 months H.L. [hard labour] on the 17th Sept, this man had only been in the City 2 days, believed to be a crook. This man escaped from custody at the Gaol was caught & [and] sentenced to [photo, right] #11 Ah Qwong Arrested by Cons [constable] Palmer & [and] Clayards charged with stealing $2.00 from J.J. Smith also charged with obtaining a gold watch of the value of $85.00 from E. Andernack by false pretence on the 17th Sept 97 & [and] sentenced on the following day to 2 years on each charge in the Pent [Penetentiary] to run concurrently. This man has previous to the above served 7 terms in the Provincial jail and 2 terms in the Penetentiary and is a noted crook.
