- Highgate Dairy Farm 3969 Gordon Head Road. The early years on Gordon Head Road saw several dairy herds grasing in teh fields on either side of the road. The farm of William Holmes, who re-established his Highgate Dairy on this road in the early 1900's, was a little more compact (26 acres). The Holmes house still stands and only and apply orchard separates it from long time neighbour Eugene Hill of 3957 Gordon Head Road. The Holmes family was made up of notable handsome sons and daughters. Grace (Mrs. Whiteoak), Mary, Annie, Daisy (Mrs. W. Bennett), Win, Johnny and Jim. The last was to die in boyhood after a shot gun accident behind the barn. No telephone or car then to bring swift help to the wounded boy and although the father urged his team with all speed to the city, by the time he and he doctor came driving back up Gordon Head Road, it was all over.
