May 9 [1931]. Left camp at 9 oclock in the
launch and headed outside
the sound. On the way out
saw several
Bluebill ducks.
5 Common Loon which were
very tame. Several were
still in the brown immature
plumage.
Landed on 3 Rocky islets
on which we took
2 Ruddy turnstones: These
birds were not very wild
and were quite easy of approach
4 Black turnstones [word crossed out] oystercatchers that
appeared to be nesting on the
rocks.
Saw 4 Wandering Tattlers that
were very wild but Mr
[Kenneth] Racey took one bird a very
small one with greyish yellow
feet + legs instead of the normal
yellow.
We then cruised down the coast
past the lighthouse taking
a Baird + 2 Brandt cormorants
a Rhinocerous [Rhinoceros] Auklet
2 marbled murrelets
and 2 Cal. [California] murres in breeding plumage
and one " " in winter plumage
Turning about we arrived East to
Bare Island about 6 miles distant
