Monashee Pass B.C. [British Columbia] June 24. 1937. alt. [altitude] 4000'
Visited rock slide west side of Pass + there
saw fine rock rabbits. Three of these were
secured by [Ian McTaggart] Cowan + self. All adult
animals in winter pelage. Those I collected were
[male symbol] + [female symbol] + both from the same rock pile across
the top of which lay a large log + under this log was
a large pile of cedar leaves packed away as these
animals usually do with their hay supplies. In
a runway found some fresh grass cuttings. [Ian McTaggart] Cowan
also noted some false box. Set out four rat
traps in suitable places in slide, all baited with
rolled oats
June 25/37 [1937]. Again visited Rock slide.
Three of my traps contained chipmunks. Two
of [Ian McTaggart] Cowan chipmunks + a third a [female symbol] pika.
[Ian McTaggart] Cowan then shot two other Rock Rabbits [inserted above] one of which was
beginning to eat the trapped pika.
June 27. 1937. Visited the meadows + rock
slides in valley below pass. Slides fairly extensive
+ four pikas seen of which [Ian McTaggart] Cowan collected three
+ I one. These animals very silent compared
to the pikas on the rock slide by roadside in pass.
Salmon Arm B.C. [British Columbia] June 28th 1937 Visited
rock slides 7 1/2 mi. [miles] west of Salmon Arm + near
Tappen. Too late in day. Heard one + [Ian McTaggart] Cowan
saw six.
Tappen B.C. [British Columbia] June 29. 1937 At rock slide
we collected 5 pikas [Ian McTaggart] Cowan 4 + myself one
Skinned these in garage at Salmon Arm.
