  • Trochus vancouverensis Smith. = Margarites Ann + Mag [Annals and Magazine of natural history] 1880 BM [British Museum] Type 80.6.23.17. Left hand spec [specimen] of 2 is indicated as this type. Collected by Rev. [Reverend] SW Taylor 5 whorls, whorls flat, nucleus one whorl smoothe [smooth], but [word crossed out] main whorls 4, clearly having vertical folds 22-24 on penultimate, obliquely arranged. No spiral sculpture except on base. 2 strong folds at peripheral, followed in series by 3 getting progressively + rapidly smaller. These occupy less than half the distance between upper lip + umbilicus at mouth of aperture. Umbilicus wide open, can look down it to the apex. Base flat, abrupt angle at edge of umbilicus + 1 well defined ridge out too [2 words crossed out] on base near edge of umbilicus Vertical folds cross base + outer umbilicus making prominent elevations on the sharp edge where base + umbilicus meet. Aperture like Solariella? [underlined] but base of it flat. [Drawing of aperture] I have seen nothing like this + suspect the locality + source. The second specimen has 2 or 3 spiral ridges on lower part of body whorl. + obscure grooves
