Kilour [Keilor] Castle. Perth.
May 29/62 [1962]
Had a brief but interesting visit to
this very excellent display of
rare + interesting plants. Knox Jones?
collection of Nomocharis, Lillies [Lilies],
Meconopsis, Primulas, Incarvillea.
Apparently my dwarf rhodo [rhododendron] is
not [illegible word crossed out] R. [Rhododendron] calostrotum [underlined] but
rather R. [Rhododendron] calliphyllum [calophyllum] [underlined]
He flowers Desfontainia here
A white variety of P. [Primula] ioessa
x Meconopsis Ludlow + Sherif 600.
x Multipetalled trillium very good.
In growing Nomocharis [underlined] Jones
plants seed outdoors in completely
shaded frames that are never
covered. They germinate well
+ he keeps them in the frame
until first flowering - 4 [+/-] years
Frame is filled with a mixture
of very rotted sawdust + sand
+ some nitrate fertilizer. Does
this mixture also for planting out.
He would like Fritillaria,
Gentiana macouni , Solomon's seal
etc seed. Dogtooth violet.
Top dressing just now with
chaff.
