- Old squaw duck.
8 mi [miles] N. [north] Aklavik June 15, 1947.
All the old squaws here are in
pairs, the occassional [occasional] trio with an
extra mate + much strife. Today
one of the most frequently seen
pairs lacks the female. Perhaps
she is incubating.
Reindeer Station July 13/47 [1947]
A female seen today on a small
tundra pond had 9 2 day old
chicks with her. The first seen
Aklavik. July 20-21/47 [1947]
Single females have been seen
on lakes where pairs were
present earlier but no indication
of broods yet.
Kidliut Bay, Richards Island July 25-29/47 [1947]
This is the commonest duck just
now + small parties of moulting
birds are to be seen on all bodies
of water. The "kla how yo" call
has not been heard for 2 weeks.
